atsui.com Site Hosting News

Big thanks to some script kiddies calling themselves the NSDAP for the crash course in the latest Solaris rootkits.  Yes, we were hacked.  Anyway, it was a nice reason to move in the new server for the site and setup a proper secure Solaris firewall.  So - the new atsui.com is up and running, now on a 4 processor Sun SparcServer 1000e box (narita.atsui.com).  Makes plenty of noise, but does the job admirably.  Everything important is hosted on an internal network behind narita.  Click here for a picture of the new box...

Launched the site statistics reporting page.  You can now see hit statistics for your site updated on a daily basis (at 4am), with history going back to the day your site went live.  For those who are running web-based mail, you can see the hits for that site separately (and make sure there are no strange people accessing your mail site!).  Click here for the statistics site.

Re-configured the mail server tonight to enable it to handle duplicate names across different domains.  For example, with the old configuration, the email address abc@atsui.com and abc@kionas.com would both deposit mail to the same user's mailbox.  This wasn't a great idea, because it meant that once I allocated a mail username, that name was taken across all domains hosted on atsui.com.  Not a good idea.  As of today, mail addresses are now tied to a specific domain.  So, if your mail address is on kionas.com, people must address the mail to you @kionas.com, not @atsui.com or any other domain hosted here.  This should not be a visible change for anyone, as your should have already been addressing your mail properly to your own domain.
